Greetings noble archers!

Emprise of the Black Lion was held this weekend at Reber Ranch within our
borders, hosted by the barony of Madrone. Since so many of our Wyewood
archers attended and I was asked to be the Marshal in Charge for archery, I
thought I would report to you our bold and chivalrous deeds this weekend.

There were over 30 archers shooting and competing at the various shoots.

The York Round had ten archers on the line and half of them were
crossbows. This range is perfect as the field is flat, the grass low but
verdant and most lovely of all there are tall trees to sight against for
aim points at all ranges. John de Percy, who has been having a very good
year, took the highest score in crossbow and Tristan de Ver was the highest
in handbow. We had three archers who shot it for the very first time and
all acquitted well of themselves and now know what a challenge it can be!

Madrone's outgoing archery champion, Tristan de Ver, arranged for some very
challenging shoots for the barony's archery champion. Eight contenders
entered the lists and the final four had two ladies in their first year of
archery and two OGGS. What followed was a three way tie shoot off in which
August Konker was the victor. Of note, Dearbhail was shooting all period
equipment in the spirit of the Emprise and made it to the shoot off.
Giulia Stanizi just finished her first season and also made it to the shoot
off.

Special Note: Elizabeth la Cignet competed at 8 years old to be the
champion of archery and was given a coin of commendation for her bravery by
Baron Stefan of Pembroke.

Inside the competition was another for the Emprise and John de Percy won
the hand painted cup to complete the family set

Sunday is always a relaxed day and we had 5 archers and several recorded
scores despite the gusting wind. Proper timing of the gusts yielded some
good scores!
