Greetings to all Wyewoodians and friends.

This past weekend, Autumn War was hosted by the Barony of Blatha an Oir. Many wonderful things happened including the elevations of Magister Tymme Lytefellow to the Order of the Mark, and Dame Dearbháil ingean uí Dhonnchaidh to the Order of the Pelican.

Other Wyewoodians were spotted on the archery and thrown weapons ranges, on the armored and rapier fields, sitting gate, marshalling various activities or generally assisting in multiple areas.

However, there was one negative occurrence that We wish to bring up. During Saturday evening court, while many of us (and others) were gathering at the back of court for processionals, negative comments were made regarding what one young person’s clothing choice. The comments were made out loud and within earshot of that young person.

Denigrating another’s choice in garb is NEVER appropriate. Especially when dealing with our youngsters and newcomers. Our goal is to grow our game, not to turn people away. And it’s exactly this type of behavior that can lead to people turning their backs upon the Society.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But when you spout those opinions within hearing of others, you should be mindful of the impact you will have. The old adage, “if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything” is entirely appropriate here. Also, something about “throwing stones” and “glass houses”, for who here amongst us is perfect in their garb choices?

We don’t want to call out anybody publicly for this. That is not the point of this missive. Instead, We want everyone to consider carefully their words. If you should encounter this type of behavior in the future, We would ask that each of you inform said individuals (politely) that such comments are hurtful and not welcome.
In Service,

Baron John de Percy, OP, OM

Baroness Margaret Palmer
