As I was still figuring out how to be a seneschal, I think I missed the proper process for filling our Exchequer position (thanks to a friend for the gentle reminder on process), and now we also have an applicant for our open A&S position. We will hold interviews at FCS on October 24th.

So without further ado, may I present Mistress Sara for Exchequer and Lady Petra for A&S:

Lady Petra del Basque Villard - letter of application for A&S
Your Excellencies,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to formally apply for the position of Arts and Sciences Officer within the Barony of Wyewood. As an enrolled member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), I am eager to offer my skills and passion in service to our Barony and its populace. I am committed to fostering a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere within the Barony and ensuring that SCA ethics and values are upheld.

I have been a member of the SCA for a total of 17 years starting in 1993 (I took breaks for education and to start my modern career) and most recently returned in January 2020. I have actively participated in Arts and Sciences, including becoming Arts & Sciences Champion of Blatha an Oir, participating in Athaneum by displaying my research, and showcasing my work at June Faire.
Most recently I have served as Deputy A&S Officer in the Barony of Wyewood, both hosting and attending A&S “working social” gatherings. Lately my A&S focus has been creating largesse for the Kingdom in the form of hand made and hand painted pottery. I am a big believer in trying new things and learning about new skills. I love to pass on my knowledge, as well as help spark passion for the Arts and Sciences in others.
Through these activities, and others, I have gained valuable experience in conducting research. My modern career as well as my experience in the SCA reaching back 3 decades have equipped me with the organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to fulfill the duties of this office effectively. I will coordinate with the Kingdom A&S Officer to provide required documentation and ensure that I have necessary information regarding A&S activities being held at Kingdom events to pass on to the populace of Wyewood.
As your Arts & Sciences Officer I intend to broaden communication by sharing regular posts in the Wyewood Facebook group that showcase projects, research, and historical finds relevant to A&S. I have several more ideas, including but not limited to:

  *
Maintaining a robust and informative electronic resource (living document, web page, or both) as an ongoing repository for tutorials, sources for research, sources for materials to make items, and SCA-related web pages that are excellent examples of the Arts & Sciences
  *
Holding regular gatherings for Wyewood members to work on projects, get help with research, socialize with one another, and collaborate
  *
Help to ensure that the Barony has what it needs in regards to items that can be made by hand (banners, regalia, etc) by offering help and engaging the populace to create these items collaboratively
  *
Facilitating intercommunication among the populace in regards to A&S in the form of polls, trivia, “show and tell” with discussions, and even small contests
  *
Finding skilled artisans to provide classes on A&S topics of interest for the Barony
  *
Assist with research, documentation and presentation of A&S displays if members would like to showcase their work at an event

Above all, I want to increase participation in the Arts and Sciences in Wyewood while making it fun. I am very good at organizing gatherings, and look forward to doing so.

I am available for an interview or conversation at your convenience and would be honored to further discuss how I can best serve the Barony in this role. Thank you very much for your consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the continued success and growth of the Barony of Wyewood.

In service,
Lady Petra del Bosque Villard
(Modern Name Stephanie Dietz)
