New Rapier Combat Handbook Commentary Request

The Society Marshal and Society Rapier Marshal are pleased to make available for commentary the approved draft of the new Rapier Handbook.  Commentary accepted through Feb 20, 2026.

This new Rapier handbook is part of the modernization effort, which is updating ALL the marshal handbooks along with the marshal related sections in Corpora, to better reflect the current structure, culture, and safety best practices we use today in our SCA martial activities.

One of the most significant changes is the modernized format, designed for easy online access and usability. With clearer layout, improved navigation, and consistency across all marshal handbooks, this new format makes it easier for both newcomers and experienced participants to find the information they need quickly and confidently.

Important Dates:   A modified 6-month process has been developed to improve communication and transparency, based on lessons learned from the AC Rattan roll-out.  Many thanks to everyone who provided feedback on the AC-rattan handbook over the last 4+ months.

Nov 20 thru Feb 20th: Rapier Handbook is open for commentary.  This version has been approved by the BoD for commentary for 3 months.
Feb 20 thru March 30: Updates to the handbook will be developed based on the commentary.
April 1: New handbook with updates from feedback will be submitted to the BoD for final review and approval.
May 20: New handbook will be in effect (if approved during the April BoD meeting).


The Cut & Thrust Handbook is in progress, and will be added to this timeline.



Please email all commentary to marshal at sca.org and rapier at sca.org, and use the title "New Rapier Handbook - commentary" in the subject line.  CC'ing your Kingdom Rapier Marshal is highly recommended.



Commentary must be received no later than Feb 20, 2026.
