Wyewood State of the Barony

Greetings fellow Wyewoodians. As the end of the year approaches, We would like to take a moment to discuss the State of the Barony of Wyewood. Where we’ve been. Where we are. And where We would like to see us in the future.

This year, the Barony had two wonderful events at Day of Archery and Wyewood Martial Champions. We had a great demo at the Dragon’s Landing Street Fair and successfully ran Kingdom Arts & Sciences/Queen's Rapier Championship in Ocean Shores on short notice. The Barony oversaw a successful baronial change over from Alarich and Aline to John and Margaret. Thank you to everyone who came out to the meet and greets, the polling, and the stepdown/setup at June Faire. Thank you to Dietrich, Alessandra, Saphira, and Avine for your officer service. Thank you to Gwen, Sara, Petra, and Gabrielle for stepping up to fill offices.

Currently, Wyewood has a very good set of officers. However, there are several vacancies. Some officers have been serving for a very long time and are in need of well-deserved rests. There are also presently two Wyewood events on the calendar that need event stewards. We would encourage anyone who has an interest in serving in any of these positions to reach out to the current officers and the seneschal for details. For event stewardship, there are a number of individuals within Wyewood who have been event stewards previously and are willing to help mentor. Many hands make light work.

Holding events within the lands of Wyewood can be expensive. Wyewood is fortunate to be able to utilize the archery range for some of our events, but should the Barony want to do something larger, then we’ll need to look farther afield. There are some possibilities to collaborate with our neighboring branches, both north and south, and this should be explored. We have done this successfully before. By cooperating with other branches, much more can be accomplished.

In the immediate future, the Customary of Wyewood is in the process of being updated. Once there is a draft, it will be posted for the populace to review and comment on, before we send it to Kingdom for their approval. The Wyewood Financial Policy will also be up for review soon, as there is an update to the Society Financial Policy that we’ll need to comply with.

We have some wish list items for the coming year. The first of which is repair or replacement of the Wyewood thrones. The current ones need some repair. We would also like to explore the possibility of constructing a pair of traveling thrones, ones that might be easier to transport and set up when traveling to events further afield. We would also like to explore either modifying the current coronets to make them size adjustable or commissioning new ones that would be adjustable and easier to maintain.

It has been 6 months since We put on the coronets. That time has been a bit of a learning experience, as We stepped into our new roles. But We will continue to learn, and grow into our roles, as We wish for the Barony to grow with us.

In Service,

Baron John de Percy, OP, OM

Baroness Margaret Palmer
