An Tir Awards Series! Learn about ALL THE AWARDS!!
We have seen some AoA awards and some given by the Royal Consort and the Companions of the Rose and Valorous Estate... Now for some Grant Level awards!!
The Grant of Arms (GoA) is an SCA society level award with a rank between that of a Patent of Arms and an Award of Arms. Some awards automatically confer a Grant of Arms upon their award. These are known as grant level awards. A Grant of Arms may be awarded on its own or as part of a grant level award; which form is more common varies a lot from Kingdom to Kingdom. Here in An Tir we have very few GoA's alone. We are starting though with my personal favorite... (GO A&S!!)
Award : Order of the Jambe de Lion
Membership carries a Grant of Arms and is awarded by the Crown to those who have shown excellence in the arts and sciences. A Grant of Arms is the second level of armigerous rank. Those who have achieved a Grant level award are given the title of Lordship, Ladyship, Noble; (Name), Armiger; (Given name), Armiger, or (Name) nobilis.
First Given : Eric the Kendtmand (Aquaterra) Jan 16, 1982 (AS XVI)
Last Given : Shahzade Nisaburi (Wealdsmere) Mar 7, 2020 (AS LIV)
Number of Award recipients : 1380! WOOO

Putting on my Pursuivant’s hat for a moment:
There is one point in this description that should be addressed. The gendered titles in English for those holding a Grant of Arms are “Lord” and “Lady”, not “Lordship” and “Ladyship”. Lordship and Ladyship are post period and effectively personal pronouns. Using them as a title is, however, a common SCAism.
