An Tir Branch Seneschal Job Description
In medieval times, the seneschal was the principal administrator or steward in charge of a noble's household and estate. In the Current Middle Ages (the SCA), the seneschal is responsible for the administrative operation of the branch. The modern world recognizes seneschals as branch vice presidents. All administrative aspects of the branch are the purview of the branch seneschal, just as the ceremonial aspects -- the "game side" are the responsibility of the Baron and Baroness.
Responsibilities
• sets the agenda and presides over the monthly Curia (business meeting)
• recruits and helps fill branch officer and volunteer positions
• reports to the Kingdom Seneschal regarding the operation of branch activities
• collaborates closely with the Baronage on branch activities and direction
• collects and archives reports from the baronial officers and the associated branches for historical record
• organizes the branch calendar and coordinates with the regional and Kingdom calendar
• reviews branch event bids, deputizes event stewards and signs site contracts
• takes part in financial decision-making within the branch
• acts as liaison with individuals and groups outside the SCA: e.g. the press, the Boy Scouts, modern authorities.
• maintains and updates branch customary documents, as well as the branch’s business records
• works to ensure that the branch operates according to the laws of modern legal authorities, SCA regulations, and the laws of the Kingdom of An Tir
Requirements
• Knowledge of SCA resources, law, conventions and culture
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Attend or deputize attendance at all Baronial business meetings and events
• Be highly accessible via email and social media.
• Be directly reachable by the Baron and Baroness and Kingdom Seneschal regarding duties and obligations of the office.
• Report quarterly to their corresponding Regional or Kingdom Superiors as required by Kingdom law.
• Baronial officer warrants are for a period of two years. Officers must be:
- A citizen of the branch for the duration of office
- A paid member of the SCA for the duration of office
- At least 18 years of age
- Senechal and exchequors need to be approved by the appropriate Kingdom officer as well
