Subject: [Wyewood] An ABUNDANCE of Champions Information!
Greetings Wyewood and Friends!
We can’t wait to see you this weekend at Wyewood Champions and Baronial Investiture. We have a lot to share so please bear with this long email.
Below you’ll find: event details, schedule, volunteers needed, competition formats, and lunch menu.
EVENT DETAILS:
Saturday, August 3, 2019
AES - 8621 S 180th St, Kent, WA 98032

Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/431045347487317/
SCHEDULE:
We have a current schedule to share. It's subject to change but should be fairly close.
Please note set-up will start at 7:00 am and we need as many hands on deck as possible as we have many pavilions to set-up. We would also value all who can stay after closing court to clean up the site.

9:30 – A&S Judges Orientation, Field Heralds Meeting
10:00 – Opening Court
11:00 – Armored, Thrown Weapons
11:30 – Arts & Sciences
12:00 – Lunch (available for $5)
1:00 – Rapier, Archery
2:00 – Wyewood Peer Meeting
4:00 – Final Archery Rounds
5:00 – Closing Court
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
It takes a group of dedicated people to pull off an event and we need you!
Here are just a few ways we need help at Champions!
We need tables. If you have one you can bring, please contact Master Martyn so we can get a good count.
We've had an amazing offering of pavilions so we'll look our best, but that means we need as many people as possible to set up and take down. Please consider being on site near 7:00 and/or staying after court for take-down.
We still have openings for gate volunteers from 12-2 an 10-12. It's a chance to fill a vital need while sitting in the shade and getting to know great people better.
Donations are needed for the Hospitality Table – please contact Tabby if you can bring something.
COMPETITION FORMATS
Please note the following formats for competitions. If you are planning to compete, we encourage you to declare your intentions to Their Excellencies by Thursday, August 1 at Wyewood.coronet at antir.org.
All competitors are expected to declare their intentions to compete at opening court (10am), and to swear an oath of fealty or service if they should be victorious (4pm). Competitors are required to be current SCA members, but do not have to be living in Wyewood to be a champion. We ask that they not be champion of the same discipline in another branch at the same time without permission of the Baron & Baroness (please email Wyewood.Coronet at AnTir.org).
*Armored*
Double elimination tournament.
*Archery*
A combination of of Royal ISH Rounds & Novelties. More details will be shared that day. Equipment is to be SCA acceptable. Distances will be all with in 40 yards.
*Rapier*
For this year's Rapier Championship, prowess alone won't be enough to win!
The exact tournament format will depend on total number of entrants, but entrants should be prepared to fight in multiple weapons forms. Accolades will be awarded by both the sitting Baron and Baroness and the incoming Baron and Baroness. Points totals will include both wins and accolades.
2 combatants - double London Masters
Pair will fight 1 bout with each of the 5 weapons forms. Each of the 4 Excellencies will award one accolade point. Second round is the same.
3-4 combatants - Round Robin London Masters
Same as above but each pair fights 5 bouts once. Accolades awarded after each pairing. (Each pairing will have 5 possible points for winning and 4 possible accolade points)
5-8 combatants - Modified Round Robin London Masters
Same as above but only 3 bouts per pairing. Each pair of Coronets will award one accolade point per pairing (3 possible victory points and 2 possible accolade points per pairing)
9+ combatants - Standard Round Robin
*Thrown Weapons*
A novelty throw will challenge and delight! For the first two rounds, competitors will throw knife and axe, 5 times each, one right-handed and one left-handed. Scoring will be non-standard with opportunities to challenge yourself for higher points. The top three scores will move on to round three which will be the spear, 5 times with each arm.
*Arts & Sciences*
The Artisan will display progress in their own art or science creation(s) during their learning process. This could be comprised of: comparing an early item you made of a particular type with the most recent (early project can be represented as a photograph or description if you do not have the physical item, or if it is a process); or the process of creating something for the first time based on your research. It should be accompanied by an analysis of your improvements and progress in making the object or process as documentably historical as you can. Challenges and setbacks and how you work with them are especially valuable in the artisan’s progress! After all, the C in SCA is for Creative! Consider including analysis of how a current Middle Ages inhabitant would interact with this product or process and why it would be significant to them.
The criteria for a display are somewhat open-ended: find a visual manner to convey your information to your audience. All displays should be accompanied by a write-up of your documentation. Consider a traditional essay form with introduction to the subject matter, paragraphs to introduce and analyze your key evidence, and conclusion(s) to communicate the key significance of your evidence. The sources should be documented in a bibliography; pick any standard bibliographic form you like as long as you use it consistently throughout.
*LUNCH*
In case you missed it, lunch will include all of this for $5!
(Subject to minor changes, a final menu and ingredients list will be at the
event)
