-Liadain ni Sheanachain

Seneschal, Wyewood

*********************

Greetings to Their Excellencies, Evrard de Valogne, Baron Wyewood, and Alessandra da Montefeltro, Baroness Wyewood.

Greetings to the esteemed seneschal of Wyewood, Liadian ni Schenachain.

Does Don Ramon diaz de la Vega send good tidings.

This message is being sent on this day in order to announce my intention to vie for the position of Baronial Rapier Marshal, of which I have heard will soon be vacant. This is fortuitous timing for me, as I have been looking for a way that I can serve my home, and feel that this is a perfect opportunity given my experience within this area.

I have attached a brief listing of my previous experience for your consideration, and look forward to talking with you in more length on this matter, at your earliest convenience.

Don Ramon Diaz de la Vega

*********************

I have over 35 years of experience studying different martial arts (starting at the age of 7), the past 17 years of which has been in the SCA and WMA (Western Martial Arts). I was first warranted as a Rapier Marshal in 1999, and since then have been the Rapier Marshal for the College of St Bunstable, Barony of Madrone, Shire of Wyewood, Western Regional Area deputy, deputy Kingdom Rapier Marshal, and Kingdom Rapier Marshal for An Tir.

Other such pursuits that I have been involved with include a Society wide "committee" that was set up by the Society Earl Marshal to investigate Period Techniques that can be safely added to the SCA Rule set – both for Rapier and Armored combat. This has not only allowed me to learn a great deal more about what we can, and cannot, do safely in SCA Combat, but also to give me a chance to interact with other marshals throughout the known world that are interested in advancing the study of historical combat.

I have a lot of experience organizing large, diverse groups of people to work towards common goals, defining new rules for rapier combat, researching Kingdom and SCA Law/Corpora for recommendations on historical combat as an A&S pursuit, legal concerns around minors fighting, etc.

It can be safe to say that most of my time in the SCA has pretty much been focused on historical combat – mainly fighting rapier, but heavy and cut and thrust as well.

However, I have also spent quite a bit of time in over the past ten years on A&S pursuits: making historical musical instruments, clothing (once upon a time), heraldry, onomastics (as it pertains to historically accurate names), as well as general furniture making.

Below I have provided a brief listing of relevant past experience and qualifications, and hope that I can assist the Society in whatever way that I can. I look forward to discussing this opportunity with you, at your convenience. I can be reached at the contact info above, or via email at donramon at lostware.com

Thank you.

Ramon de la Vega
