Greetings unto the Noble, Honorable, Chivalrous populace of Wyewood,
Champions yesterday was everything we, as your Baron and Baroness, could
ever hope for. In the face of a last minute date change, you brought
out the best in our barony, not only in feats of prowess on the fields
but of skill and courage in the arts and sciences.
If there was a theme to this Champions event it was Inspiration. We
would like to tell you what inspired us that day.
The gathering of competitors and their Inspirations was so heartening to
see. To hear all who would vie to be champions declare spouses, family
members, friends and even the barony itself meant so much to us. It was
a joy to see everyone come together not only to set up and clean up, but
throughout the day as well. We saw our armoured participants take up
shields to provide shade to the finalists during the water break. There
was ingenuity at Thrown Weapons when the targets started to fail. The
marshals and throwers quickly stepped in to pound in wedges that lasted
all day. We felt the sense of community during the moment of silence
for the passing of Master Gordon Redthorn. We heard the loud cries of
gladness as each worthy recipient's name was called to come and kneel
before us.
And all around us our wonderful populace served others. From hosting
gate to hospitality, marshaling the fields to heralding, wherever there
was a need there was someone addressing it. Our Event Steward, Don
Donatello, pulled together a splendid event and worked well with his
chosen team.
Our outgoing champions - Geoffrey of the Reeds, HL James Carreg O'Gywen,
HL Adrianna the Fierce, and Warder Martyn Baxter - served the barony
with honor and chivalry. They have represented Wyewood well over the
past year and provided challenging tournaments for their successors. We
welcome HL Tymme Lytefellow as our Archery Champion, Sir Martin le
Harpur as our Armoured Champion, HL Marguerite fitz William as our Arts
& Sciences Champion, Warder Martyn Baxter as our Rapier Champion, and
Lord Leo le Firse as our Thrown Weapons Champion. We know our new
champions will make the Barony proud and We look forward working with
them.
Thank you all for a tremendous event.
In Service to the Crown we remain,
Baron Evrard de Valogne
Baroness Alessandra da Montefeltro
