Since we aren't local and can't provide this help directly, we want to donate. I've had several Exchequers ask me over the past few days about donating to the Ansteorra PayPal Disaster Relief Fund and whether SCA branches could directly donate to it. Unfortunately, SCA funds cannot be donated to this worthy endeavor. Here are the applicable passages from the SCA Exchequer's Handbook: "Raising Money for Other Charities: From time to time, charitable concerns appear to which we would like to donate, like disaster relief funds. Unfortunately, most disaster relief funds are not also 501(c)(3) organizations. Example: trust funds for families of deceased populace. A 501(c)(3) organization such as the Society cannot donate to these other organizations and funds. If it is the wish of the populace to make a donation as a group to funds of this sort, the money must never enter an SCA account. Collect the money to be donated separately (by pass-the-hat or by holding private fund raisers that specifically advertise the destination of all funds raised), and donate the money directly to the fund." I encourage all of you to promote privately-run fund-raising efforts, but please do not deposit the funds raised from these efforts into your branch accounts. Please let me know if you have any questions. Arontius. Exchequer, An Tir. Like Comment

DISASTER RELIEF DONATIONS -

Greetings All,

I know that when we all hear of something as devastating and tragic as the hurricane, the first thing we want to do is help. Here are the applicable passages from the SCA Exchequer's Handbook:

"Raising Money for Other Charities: From time to time, charitable concerns appear to which we would like to donate, like disaster relief funds. Unfortunately, most disaster relief funds are not also 501(c)(3) organizations. Example: trust funds for families of deceased populace. A 501(c)(3) organization such as the Society cannot donate to these other organizations and funds. I encourage all of you to promote privately-run fund-raising efforts, but please do not deposit the funds raised from these efforts into your branch accounts.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
