I suspect we will need to update the customary to reflect this just so the information is easily accessible and doesn’t get forgotten or lost.

Aside from that, we might want to consider adding the ability to comp our champions’ site fees for the Champions’ event they are required to be at to find their successor and for Feast. I think it would encourage our champions to attend our most important branch events.

Greetings Wyewood! We want to share a change to the expectations for our Champions that is coming from the Society:

 * To vie for Champion, in any discipline

and at any age level, the participant

must be a paid member of the SCA. And

   must maintain that membership during

   their tenure as Champion.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Saturday, August 26, in Kent, at Wyewood's regular archery field, for Wyewood Champions!

In Service,

Baroness Alessandra and Baron Evrard

ON THE SUBJECT OF 'CHAMPIONS'

.....a.) Any Champion who carries a symbol of that Championship, or regalia of any type, be it a sword, a staff, anything that is tangible at all, MUST BE A PAID MEMBER during the entire time that regalia is held. This regalia is owned by the branch / Society, and anything of value can only be held and maintained by a PAID MEMBER. This includes minors who hold regalia for Championships such as 'Youth Champion'. In this case, both the minor, and the adult who signs for them as parent or guardian, must be paid members of the SCA.

.....b.) If the Champion is, by branch Financial Policy, allowed free entry (is Comp'ed) to any event, including simply the event where their successor is chosen, that Champion MUST BE A PAID MEMBER of the SCA during their tenure as Champion, through the day / time their success is named officially.

.....Please let me know if you have any questions on this.

.....Thank You, Arontius of Bygelswade.
.....An Tir Kingdom Exchequer.

Yes, yes, yes!!! Forget Seafair. It's too crowded. You don't want to do yardwork. It's too hot. Have you always wanted to be a champion of Wyewood for as long as you can remember? Now's your chance! This Saturday, August 5, in Kent, Wyewood's regular archery field, is Wyewood Champions!

All competitors will be expected to declare their intentions to compete at opening court (10am), and be willing to swear an oath of fealty or service if they should be victorious (4pm). <snip> They shall not be champions in another branch at the same time without permission of the Baron & Baroness (please email coronets at wyewood.org by Friday if this applies).

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
* Attend Baronial events during tenure as Champion
* Promote within the Branch and abroad activities associated with their Championship
* Defend the Branch against all challengers in the field relating to their Championship
* Assist in coordinating a tournament to choose their successor
* Attend both the tournament to choose their successor and the successor's investiture

Rights include, but not limited to:
* Wear regalia appropriate to their station
* Sit at High Table at Wyewood Feasts if space is available
* Advise the Baronial Coronet in matters of peace and war

Rapier scenarios will be a London Masters in a round robin format.

Thrown weapons will be a variety of games of skill.

A&S needs a single entry, mostly or completely finished, with at least 3 pages of documentation.

Archery will be novelty shoot combined with other, more standard shoot scenarios.

Armored tournament format will be based on the number of competitors.

Bring a dayshade, water, sunscreen. If you don't want to compete, just hang out.

Hope to see you there.
