Greetings Officers:
A few months back, Earl Cire visited us during our Officer's Meeting to discuss a possible regional fighter practice, and to ask permission for that to be held within our lands. That idea has continued to float around during the event season, and there is now a renewed effort to launch a practice starting in the Fall. I am forwarding a message from Sir Rauokinn, presently the Armored Combat Marshal for Madrone, that was sent to the Barons, Baronesses, and Seneschals for the branches in the region (Aquaterra, Glymm Mere, Madrone, Blatha an Oir, Dragon's Laire, and Wyewood).
I would like to get your thoughts on the matter during our upcoming Officer's Meeting. I do NOT intend to propose a vote at this time, as I would like to better understand the financial requirements to host this. I would remind us that Ear Cire offered to pick up the tab for all branches if only to get this launched. Once we have a better understanding of a possible sponsorship amount, then I will put it to a vote. I believe that the hope is that donations would essentially cover the costs, especially once word gets out that there really are a lot of people showing up to play. One of the reasons for selecting Kennydale is not only is it a known entity (we have the Wyewood Winter Workshops there now), but that the practice would attract spouses to which A&S offerings (for example) could occur, thereby making it a little bit of something for everyone. That part may or may not happen this year.
Thanks,
Constantine

Greetings to all
Your Excellencies and assorted officers,
I am Sir Rauokinn,
the armored combat marshal for the Barony of Madrone. HE Earl Cire, mighty
Baron of Madrone has tasked me with coordinating with the shires and baronies in
the Puget Sound area to determine whether there was interest in co-sponsoring a
monthly regional weekend fight practice at a central location off the I-5.
We were thinking likely for the non-camping season, perhaps October through
March or April. Our initial thought is to host it somewhere like the
Kennydale Elementary school in Renton (in Wyewood) where currently the Winter
Workshops are venued, since it has a large indoor space, bathrooms, and a large
outdoor space for fighting in nice weather. Ideally, the branches would
all pitch in and share the cost of renting the facility and we would ask
attendees to donate a fee (suggestion of $5) to offset the costs. I think
having a regional practice, with an indoor fighting option, would be a huge
boon to all of our respective fighting communities and would also help foster a
greater regional identity between the groups in the Puget Sound area.
Since there is
already a Winter workshop tentatively scheduled for the weekend of October 8th,
we were thinking that might also be a good weekend to "test drive" the idea of a
regional practice. I'm not sure how it would be set up, and that is
definitely open to discussion, but options include having the regional practice
Saturday afternoon after the workshop concludes or perhaps on Sunday afternoon
with the added bonus that the Westies visiting for the workshop would be an
added draw for the practice on Sunday.
Please let me know
if Your groups are interested in co-sponsoring such a regional practice and
whether you have any ideas or suggestions to make it more feasible. In any
event, even if your group does not decide to financially contribute to the
funding of the practice, I would very much appreciate it if you would encourage
your populace to come over and participate. There will be room for
non-fighters to hang out and we will have access to bathrooms. Maybe we
can even work out some sort of potluck BBQ and socializing. Something low
key and fun.
Thank you all for
your indulgence. I look forward to hearing from you,
Rauokinn
